Applying Mathematics [Combined Set]In our Level 7 combined set we have Prime Factoring, Decimals and Percent, Shapes and Dimensions, and Building Number Systems. Each of these are stand-alone modules and can be done in any order, although they are listed in the preferred order. After completing Level 6 and 7, a student will be ready for Algebra.

Prime Factoring 7/1This module can either be used as a stand-alone or part of an ongoing curriculum. It contains 20 DVD lessons.
The suggested grade level is from 7th to 12th grade. If your students have had prime factoring using the factor tree method, they still need this module because they will learn so much more. They will learn a systematic approach to prime factoring that will make it a powerful tool to find the least common multiple and greatest common factor. They will be able to easily put large fractions in simplest form, and multiply and divide large fractions that will automatically come out in lowest terms. They will not ask, "Where will I ever use this?" when they are done. This module includes: 1 Data CD (printed material) 3 Lesson DVDs (20 lessons) $29.00 |

Decimals & Percent 7/2This module is made up of 33 DVD lessons plus 11 supplemental lessons (no video). It covers all aspects of decimals including:
> Place value, rounding off, changing from decimals to fractions, and fractions to decimals. > Changing non-ending, repeating decimals to fractions and changing fractions to non-ending repeating decimals. > Why non-ending rational numbers must repeat and the limits of the period of repetition. The meaning of percent, changing percent to decimals, and decimals to percent. Doing problems like, "60 is 12% of what?" Using percent in story problems about discount, commission, interest, taxes, budgets, savings accounts, etc. A short look at compound interest and amortization charts. This module includes: 1 Data CD (printed material) 3 Lesson DVDs (33 lessons) 11 Supplemental Lessons (no video) 44 Total Lessons $41.00 |
Shapes & Dimensions Final Test

Shapes & Dimensions 7/3This module is third in the Level 7 series, after Prime Factoring and Decimals & Percent, but can be used as a stand-alone module. All dimensions are in decimal units, in keeping with the mode for the Level 7 curriculum. There are 23 DVD lessons and 1 supplemental lesson (no video).
We start with finding area and perimeter of polygons, and area and circumference of circles. This leads into area and perimeter of compound and complex figures made up of more than one shape, combined to form the new figures. Some figures add area to the original figures, and some subtract area from them. Then we move on to solid figures. We find surface area and volume of figures including various solid pyramids, cylinders, cones, frustums, and spheres. Finding volume of compound figures by combining various solid figures is covered. We also learn about buoyancy and displacement of floating and submerged objects. Sample Problem: When a rock weighing 318 pounds is placed in water, it displaces 1.9 cubic feet of water. How much does the rock weigh in fresh water? How much does it weigh in seawater? This module includes: 1 Data CD (printed material) 2 Lesson DVDs (23 lessons) 1 Supplemental Lesson (no video) 24 Total Lessons $30.00 |
Building Number Systems Final Test

Building Number Systems 7/4This is the last module in the Level 7 series. It has 24 DVD lessons. This module covers some of the things that are usually tested for on standardized tests at this level.
We start off by covering Roman numerals, and point out the shortcomings of a system like that. We develop an algorithm for adding and subtracting Roman numerals to give an appreciation for our Hindu Arabic system. Moving on, we go into the binary system used in the basic computer operations, and then on to base eight and base sixteen, both used in computers. We also talk about incorporating letters into the numbering scheme of things like serial numbers and license plates. Then we calculate the number of combinations that are available under these schemes. The module ends with the covering of set notation, including Venn diagrams.
